About
Our university is yours and so is this space
At 2:30 p.m. Monday, “dead week” will come alive as we come together to reclaim Wheeler Hall and transform it into an “Open University”. We’ll control at least one building for 24 hours a day for the entire week, it will be a social center, an organizing hub, a place to study, relax, party, learn, teach, eat, sleep, but above all, a space to share. For more information on the why, read the Live Week statement. Looking for something in particular? Check out the developing schedule.
Overview
The Info Point at the lobby of Wheeler Hall will be our hub. This is your main point of contact with the Open University, it will be staffed with people who can answer questions at all times. It will be used as a gathering point to meet up with friends, it’s where to find out what room a scheduled event is occurring, to learn the general plan for the day, to volunteer to help, or just to get some literature.
Main Room activities will take place in Wheeler Auditorium. This will be a central space in which we will gather as a large group to have important discussions, deliberate action proposals, determine what to do in the open university, and also have parties and entertainment. There will be an emphasis on democratic decision making in determining the agenda and nature of these large group events. For more information on the Main Room events, including the General Assembly, click here.
The rest of the building will be reclaimed as well, and we will potentially expand to nearby buildings if we need the space. It is in these reclaimed classrooms and spaces that we will schedule the many various workshops, skillshares, events, review sessions, fun and games, etc, that are a part of the Open University. We’ll maintain an online Schedule for these many events, but people will be self-organizing and many events will happen spontaneously, and therefore may not be listed online. Keep in mind that the Schedule will only have times listed, since we need to be flexible with the room scheduling. In order to find your event, make sure you leave time to stop by the Info Point.
